Rockford wins this defensive battle on the opening night of high
school football. Brighton led 3-0 at the half. Rockford's defense
dominated this game only allowing one field goal and one touchdown
the entire game. The D also came up with a key interception deep in
Rockford territory and recoverd 2 fumbles. Both of Rockford's touchdowns
came after turnovers forced by the defense. Rockford's first touchdown
came on a 40+ yard reception by KC O'Rourke. The second touchdown
was on a short, tough rush within the 10 yard line by Joe Kik..
Rockford led 14 -3 most of the 2nd half. Brighton scored a touchdown
late in the fourth quarter and converted a 2 point play to come within
3 points. Brighton did regain posession with about 1 minute to go
in the game. They moved the ball to Rockford's 25 yard line and had
to settle for a 42 yard field goal attempt. The fg attempt was just
wide left and the clock ran out.
This was a great win to kickoff the 2001 season. The was a tight
game that could have gone either way. This close win will give the
team the experience and the confidence for "yesterday, TODAY,
and tomorrow."
