2003 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY

Ledbetter commits to Columbia University

Eric Ledbetter, All State kicker at Rockford Senior High School has officially committed to Columbia University in New York City.  Eric’s decision came after making official visits to both Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania.  His decision was fueled on the academic prowess of Columbia, especially in his proposed field of study which is pre-med and bio-medical engineering.  Eric also based his decision on the fact that he will have the opportunity to kick for Columbia this fall and that the university had just hired head coach Bob Shoop and a new staff.  Shoop came from Boston College where he was the defensive coordinator.  Eric was really impressed by the energy and excitement that all the coaches and players exhibited in respect to the upcoming season.

While at Rockford, Eric has been an integral part of the Rams success.  Besides helping the team make it to the playoffs every season, Eric set the school record with a 47-yard field goal.  Eric also made the MHSAA record books for extra points kicked in three different categories; number of extra points in a season, a career, and consecutive points kicked.  This season Eric finished his high school career with a perfect 40 of 40 extra points, tacking on 16 from his junior season which gave him 56 straight - making him 2nd all time for consecutive extra points in the MHSAA record books.  In his career at Rockford, Eric has made 122 of 128 extra points and completed 10 of 17 in field goals.  Along with All State honors, Eric was also selected for the Grand Rapids Press “Dream Team” and the Advance “All Area”.

Eric is a great student athlete, carries over a 4.0 GPA and has made the Academic All State Football Team the past three seasons.
