Rockford's running attack proved
too much for Forest Hills Central to handle. Bradd VanderVeen carried the
football seven times for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns
to highlight a potent Rams' ground game during a 35-0 shutout
Friday night at Central.
VanderVeen had a 45-yard scoring
run in the third quarter and a 30-yard touchdown scamper in
the fourth quarter.
Rockford, tied for eighth in
the Division 1 state rankings, had 32 total carries for 310
yards.
Spencer Klukowski began the
scoring with a 24-yard run before Steve Kik went into the end
zone from a yard out for a 14-0 first-quarter lead. The Rams
added a second-quarter score with Sean O'Rourke's 31-yard run.
Mark Bossauh had 27 carries
for 82 yards for the Rangers, who had 142 rushing yards and
just 148 total yards.
Cody Markward led the Rockford
defense with eight tackles. Central got seven tackles form
Peter Kruass and Bossauh.
Rockford is 4-0 overall and
3-0 in the O-K Red Metro. The Rams host East Kentwood, the
top-rated team in Division 1, next Friday.
