Rockford 28, Hudsonville 27: Failed 2-point conversion leaves Eagles short on comeback

HUDSONVILLE, MI — An uneventful first quarter led to plenty of excitement throughout the rest of the game Friday as Rockford visited Hudsonville. The Eagles marched down the field with two minutes left in the game to score on a 64-yard touchdown pass but came up short after a muffed snap ended their chances of a win.

Key to the Game
The Eagles, down by one point with less than a minute to go in the game, tried for a 2-point conversion but a muffed snap ended their comeback.

Hudsonville Highlights 
Mason Opple connected with Kaden Kempker for a 64-yard touchdown pass.  The Eagles’ strong defensive effort stymied the Rams in the first half, holding them to just 40 yards rushing. The Eagles made a great charge in the fourth quarter as Opple let the ball loose for some big gains. The senior quarterback racked up 279 yards of offense, 176 through the air and 125 on the ground. With 4:17 left in the game Mason Opple connected with Cooper Cecchini on a 15 yard pass play. Bradley Walker added the extra point to tie the game up 21-21 with 4:17 remaining in the game.

Rockford Highlights
Rams defense gets through the line in quick fashion to pressure Opple after he muffed the bad snap while trying for two points and the lead with 56.5 seconds left. Spencer Andrus intercepted a pass from Hudsonville quarterback Mason Opple and ran 35 yards for the touchdown  On third down and four Reed Martin caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Landen Haney with 2:45 left in the game. Quinn Nordin added the extra point to put Rockford up 28-21. Rockford punter Quinn Nordin netted 164 yards on five punts.
